Local Experiences
Casa di Alice is located in Sambuca Val di Pesa, within the municipality of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. Sambuca (formerly “Buca Santa”) is a small village in the Val di Pesa, named after the river that rises just a few kilometres away inside the Abate Nature Park and flows right in front of the house. It’s a small village, yet equipped with all essential services: Grocery store, bakery, bank, pharmacy, ATM, church, fruit and vegetable shop, newsstand, hairdresser, beautician, butcher, cafés, restaurants, pizzerias, petrol station, tennis courts, padel courts, and a swimming pool.
3
Strategic Location
Just 2 km from the entrance to the Florence–Siena highway (RA3 FI‑SI Autopalio), Casa di Alice offers easy access to Tuscany’s most famous destinations as well as its more intimate, lesser‑known gems.
In less than an hour you can reach renowned destinations such as Florence, Siena, and San Gimignano, as well as lesser‑known yet equally charming places like Montefioralle, Badia a Passignano, Colle Val d’Elsa, Sant’Appiano, Monteriggioni, and all the castles, villages, and parish churches of the Chianti Classico area, and much more.
4
Accessibility
Casa di Alice is spread over multiple levels with staircases that do not allow easy access for guests with disabilities.
The house is accessible by car via paved roads, making it perfect for every type of traveler. Public parking in front of the house is spacious.
Public transportation in small countryside villages like Sambuca is often limited both in routes and schedules. Having your own vehicle is not just recommended — it’s essential.
During excursions or visits to wineries, you may come across the so‑called “strade bianche” (White roads). These are ancient unpaved farm roads that are protected as an integral part of the Chianti Classico landscape, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Because of their historical and environmental value, they cannot be paved or altered in any way. They are historic routes to be admired, preserved, and cared for.
